A deeper look: Equity work with a white coach

Why should I undertake equity and inclusion work, aka “the work”, with a white coach?

This is a valid and excellent question.

For white people:

  • I’ve been where you are. Uncertain, nervous, and potentially afraid of attempting to do this work and do it “wrong.” And I know how to get through that; still show up and do the work. Even better, I know how to help you do that, too.

  • We, white people, benefit greatly from unlearning deeply ingrained racist (stick with me, I know that’s hard to hear) ideology from and alongside other white people. It can be easier to work through these issues with someone you don’t need to worry about offending or hurting.

  • That leads to my next point: white people doing this work together can help to prevent harm, even unintentional, especially to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color). I can help you be a better leader, coworker, family member, community member, and friend.

For BIPOC:

  • To be honest, this is tricky. I have knowledge and expertise but only a white person’s perspective and that might not be what you need. Although if you’re looking for someone to work through tough situations together, I can definitely help with that.

  • I also offer equity work, centered on topics such as gender and LGBTQ+ rights. If you’re curious about those and want to delve into them with someone who also happens to be an anti-racism coach, I’m your person.

Feel free to connect to see how I can support you in starting or continuing your equity and inclusion journey and becoming a better leader and friend, all while improving the lives of those around you.
